Upcoming on The Glow Radio

Hi all, I hope all of you have had a Happy Thanksgiving and are getting ready for the Christmas and New Year's holidays coming up. On Thanksgiving on of our DJ's, The Reverend DJ Furg did a non-stop 26 hour marathon radio show and it was great. He is now wanting to do a 51 hour marathon over the New Years weekend. As soon as I know it is happening for sure I will post about it. Coming up on The Glow Radio we have a new DJ out of England starting this Saturday at 6am Pacific/9am Eastern/2pm GMT. Myself living in the Pacific time zone means I will be up listening, but I am looking forward to his show. His name is Mike Howard and he plays soul, smooth grooves style music. We are also going to do a Glow Radio Christmas Party on the air and will be much bigger than last year since we have more DJ's now. As soon as we have the date and times set up I will post. My next show is Wednesday at 9pm Pacific/Midnight Eastern/5am GMT and I hope you all will tune in for The Freak Show.

I am Back

Hey all, sorry I have been away from blogging. You now how life can get, you get caught up and pulled in lots of directions. But i am happy to report life for me is good and looking great. Lots of happenings at The Glow Radio. We just celebrated the first birthday of The Glow Radio on September 5th and we broadcasted around the clock with all the DJ staff. We have grown and have more DJs and more are joining up with us. We are gaining more listeners too world wide and part of that is due to getting listed on the iTunes Radio Directory. You will find us listed under Classic Rock there and you can link up to us on the iTune music player. DJ Summer our Web Mistress has been very busy making the Glow site better and better. If you haven't been there lately you need to come visit us and check out the site. My next show is Friday Night at 9pm Pacific/Midnight Eastern. You may start seeing a Morning Drive Freak Show sometimes too since we have listenrs hungry for live morning music

Summer Concert Season

It is looking like the upcoming summer concert season is shaping up to be a good one. Thr Rockstar Mayhem Festival Tour starts on my birthday July 1oth in San Bernadino,Ca. and I will be attending it the next day when it is in Moutainview, Ca. This year's Headliner stage has Korn, Rob Zombie, Lamb of God & Five Finger Death Punch. The other two stages will have bands like Hatebreed, Atreyu, In This Moment, Shadowsfall and more. This festival has filled the void left from Ozzfest stopping their tour around the country and is in its third year now. Bands like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Dave Mathews Band, Greenday, A.F.I, Eagles, U2, Flyleaf, Iron Maiden, Nickelback, Breaking Benjamin, Sick Puppies and many other bands. Broadcast Radio will have their Summer Festivals too. Maybe someday when The Glow Radio gets real big we might be able to host our own Radio Music Festival. Now that would be a dream come true for me. I will of course be trying to attend as many shows as I can this summer. I will try to get pictures and post them on The Glows site.

Concert Ticket Prices

I will tell you my biggest pet peeve about the concert industry is the cost of the concert tickets. I know the prices are partly based on what the artist ask for, but there is all those different service charges the ticket companies tack on to also. I just recently bought 2 tickets for a show I am going to see. The cost per ticket is 35.50. There is also a covenience charge of $9.10 per ticket. There is also a processing fee of $4.40, and the grand total of 2 tickets came up to 93.60. Now this wasn't as bad as other tickets I have purchased in the past. Some places charge you a parking fee and this does not matter if you use their parking or not. Some places also charge you a building fee. I have even seen a fees for some charity in the past. The ticket industry for concerts and events have got way out of hand. The United States Congress is even holding hearings about this and may try to regulate the industry. I am betting that will never happen because the lobbiest will find a way to take care of that if you know what I mean. I will still go see live shows as much as I can and afford. Just when some bands have shows where the cheapest seats are like 90 dollars I just may miss those.
I love going to the smaller venues where seeing the up and coming bands don't cost as bad, but the damn service charges still drive even those ticket prices up.
One way to escape some of these extra charges is to buy the tickets at the venue itself. I definitely want to hear your opinions about all this too and hope you reply to this blog. Let me know what you think.

This weekends Freak Show info

Once again I got sick with another cold and have been down out of action for 3 days. I tell you it's this crazy weather we have been having. We have sunny and warm weather, then it rains and it gets colder, back to sun and warm and back to more rain. I am finally starting to feel better again and I am happy about that. This weekend I will be taking Saturday off from radio because I am going to see The Sick Puppies in show. I can't wait, I was suppose to see them over a year ago with Chevelle and they had cancelled out due to a death in the family I heard. I did get turned on by a new band that replaced them by the name of I Hate Kate. This weekend's radio shows will be on Friday & Sunday night still and Aiko will be covering me on Saturday. Friday's Featured artist will be Kings of Leon, and Sunday will be Def Leopard. My concert series will be Buckcherry Live & Loud. I hope all of you tune in at www.theglowradio.com

Internet Radio

Back in the late 60's FM Radio and "Free Format Radio" was born. The also labeled this "Underground Radio" I loved it because I got to listen to much harder rock music that wasn't allowed on most radio, especially on the popular AM Radio. Music considered too long for radio was also played on these stations. Progressive Rock music always had very long songs in running time and I got to hear it on these stations. Soon "Free Format" became "Album Oriented Rock" and eventually most of these stations were bought up by corperate radio and they had their controlled playlist and Free format Radio died. Sattelite Radio came long and this was better than broadcast radio, but it cost money to listen too. Along comes Internet Radio and once again Free Format Radio is back and Internet radio is practically free too, Just the cost of the internet connection. The stations themselves don't charge and exist on advertising or donations. The only threat to us is the Recording Industry Association of America whom are trying to push through Congress a hike in royalties fees and if this happens it might destroy Internet Radio and access to almost free free format radio. If you don;'t want this to happen fire off e mails to your congressmen or women and the senators letting them know you don't want this to happen.

About my Friday, Saturday, & Sunday Radio Shows

My radio show "The Freak Show" always has a "Featured Artist" for the show that night. This weekend shows will be featuring Linkin Park for all 3 nights. I usually play sets of the featured artist through out the show. Linkin Park is a well loved band and has a huge fan base. Their concerts are always great as are their CDs.
I also present a Concert Series show on Sunday before my regular show and play recording of a concert without interruption. This weekend in honor of my "Linkin Park Weekend" I will be presenting not one, but two Link Park concerts; Live At Texas Live At Milton Keynes. My shows on Friday & Saturday are at
9pm pacific/Midnight eastern. Sunday's Concert Series starts at
4pm pacific/7pm eastern and "The Freak Show" starts immediately after.
